Recent studies show that all patients on bilevel therapy experience mouth leaks, which interfere with a bilevel device's triggering sensitivity and cause poor synchronization between the bilevel device and user. Poor synchronization forces patients to exhale against a higher pressure, which increases the work of breathing and causes fragmented sleep, muscle fatigue, and reduced usage.
