Auto Adjusting Positive Airway Pressure (APAP) machines are used to non-invasively and effectively treat Sleep Apnea and are the most advanced type of PAP machine. They are different from CPAP and BiPAP machines in that they adjust the pressure of the air flow with each breath. CPAP and BiPAP machines always deliver the pressure required to keep your airway open during an apnea (a pause in breathing due to a collapsed airway) or hypopnea (a shallow breath due to a partially closed airway), but these events do not last all night, rather they occur intermittently throughout the night. APAP machines only deliver that higher pressure while an apnea or hypopnea event is occurring, and it will lower the pressure when your airway is naturally open. It is always adjusting to deliver the minimum pressure necessary, which is why it is considered the most comfortable type of PAP machine. APAP machines also offer more therapy tracking information than other PAP machines. Each machine comes with standard tubing, a filter, and a power cord. Additional features such as a heated hose, humidifier, therapy tracking software, and off-grid power options may be purchased to augment your CPAP therapy. APAP machines are compact enough to sit nicely on a bedside table and some are made to be travel-friendly.
